<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Carol asked how I make my Easy Peasy tote handles....</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
It's hard to explain without a photo.... I hope my Photo example helps.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First I decide what color I want my Main fabric. I cut this strip to 2
1/2" wide and desired length. (I cut these strips from centerfold to
selvage on the material. I use my ruler and rotary cutter). Fold this
strip in half and press wrong sides together with edges even to one
side, and the ironed crease on the other side. Open the Main strip and
fold and press the raw edges to the center as indicated in the photo.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is the same way you would make a bias strip. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Cut a piece of batting 1" in width and the desired length. This batting
strip is placed inside and down the center of the main fabric fold.
Press all of this flat. Cut a 1 1/2" wide accent strip with desired
length.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This accent strip is also made like a bias strip. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
To construct.. Place the main fabric and batting with raw edges up. Next
Pin the raw edges of the small bias to the cover the raw edges of the
main fabric opening. As shown in the photo. Stitch down either side of
the small bias to secure it and cover any openings. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I have found I love adding the accent trim to the handle.. but you can make them the old fashion way.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
4 inch strips.. fold in half then fold in half and stitch down either
side of strip to secure. If I do a handle this way I also add a bit of
iron on interfacing to make them a bit stronger and not so wimpy.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I hope your not to confused with my instructions. Once you make one.. you will understand my concept.</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know, it's been a long time and I'm sorry. I really haven't been crafting much. Yes, blasphemy. Haha... Life has really been taking some interesting twist and turns over the last three months. We decided to become foster parents, but happened to get a bad agency where the director was really off his rocker. =( I'll spare you the drama. I spoke with a new agency a couple weeks ago and they seem sooooo much better. Moving on... Our area has a high demand for newborn foster homes so bring back that crib!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfAx5A0CUXrdHM1z1atPSBD3wsI-QM6BtLs85mPU8cRgN4am-WSBJK7Eg1CCO5jXfzReNk64oSZedniDOqgd-UFcoibDg9j0UfNETzBhFaPwWCdpPNMaPTYugTUT_cRXFeB5LqC1U0aLrN/s1600/20130121_184554.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfAx5A0CUXrdHM1z1atPSBD3wsI-QM6BtLs85mPU8cRgN4am-WSBJK7Eg1CCO5jXfzReNk64oSZedniDOqgd-UFcoibDg9j0UfNETzBhFaPwWCdpPNMaPTYugTUT_cRXFeB5LqC1U0aLrN/s320/20130121_184554.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Instead of going with the boring or pricey crib sheets out there I decided to make one of my own. My daughter had an animal/Noah's Ark themed nursery so this one will run right along that line. I came across a tutorial on <a href="http://www.danamadeit.com/2008/07/tutorial-crib-and-toddler-bed-sheets.html">Dana Made It</a> first and have since seen a couple other patterns. I basically followed her pattern with only a few tweaks. I used two yards of <strong>prewashed</strong> fabric and began with 80" of 1/4" elastic. I folded my fabric into 4ths and cut it at 33.5" across the top raw edge. The salvage side didn't meet the 22.5" requirement so I didn't cut it; it was actually 21". Although I was slightly short on the width it wasn't a problem in the end and the bonus was me not having to hem the edge. With my fabric still folded in 4ths I cut an 8"x8" square out of the non folded corner. If you see Dana's tutorial you will see just what I mean.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi64Dzo9qgAcC4bpZjIQfjo5Ulf21hoC4Ngs8x-tKVBdp9du-WsbdRclHGjEbunB59XyP7H-FgPsvV3Y_bvwb9PQmux33F6CNoOLzRQgwFKKkpcWBW8IlAcMXN0gkDi4NYAjCFnm9oFbAUg/s1600/20130121_164800.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi64Dzo9qgAcC4bpZjIQfjo5Ulf21hoC4Ngs8x-tKVBdp9du-WsbdRclHGjEbunB59XyP7H-FgPsvV3Y_bvwb9PQmux33F6CNoOLzRQgwFKKkpcWBW8IlAcMXN0gkDi4NYAjCFnm9oFbAUg/s320/20130121_164800.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
After sewing up the corners just as she instructed I zigzag stitched my short ends to keep them from fraying. Remember they are the only cut portion besides the four corners which I also zigzag stitched after sewing those seams together. If you've never done this here's all I do... I make my stitches closer together then the average zigzag stitch. On my sewing machine it's 2.5. When the needle goes to the left it hits fabric and to the right I let if "fall off" the fabric. It causes it to slightly roll the fabric and keep it from fraying.<br />
<br />
<br />
Alright now for my questions from all the tutorial's I saw. How much fabric is left to fold under the mattress? First off let me say, I bought this mattress in January 2009 from Walmart. It is a standard American crib mattress. After sewing the corners together and finishing the raw edges with the zigzag stitch I put the sheet on to see if it will actually fit. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqrFMKnvAlNhaZr3tMJZNsRFHl7jr4StEXwfs6Jo8oZLudjYd7YwSB6t3W5YCEwYVsWWc3BVtPX7B44gpTa_gXuHJjIbqYBYVcJC6R_xhfAl_OEsFWIRO6D75YLb8p7psKRQ0AysCLutSg/s1600/20130121_165229.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqrFMKnvAlNhaZr3tMJZNsRFHl7jr4StEXwfs6Jo8oZLudjYd7YwSB6t3W5YCEwYVsWWc3BVtPX7B44gpTa_gXuHJjIbqYBYVcJC6R_xhfAl_OEsFWIRO6D75YLb8p7psKRQ0AysCLutSg/s320/20130121_165229.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The sides had 2.5" to wrap under.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhIHO83atMDldzESvx1LKvhoIvgPGM5Nwa_3NS0bJ_l-hu7BIYHgQ6nhC9W_6GvG08zLTB9EE45iPViW3LcIQmJDMy2kfCMAO2o72jn_IrUs_fgqaSHLKZJqT_ApUW7bAfE_gh1SksPvAx/s1600/20130121_165342.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhIHO83atMDldzESvx1LKvhoIvgPGM5Nwa_3NS0bJ_l-hu7BIYHgQ6nhC9W_6GvG08zLTB9EE45iPViW3LcIQmJDMy2kfCMAO2o72jn_IrUs_fgqaSHLKZJqT_ApUW7bAfE_gh1SksPvAx/s320/20130121_165342.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The ends had 3" to wrap under. I find the difference only being .5" interesting seeing how the sides are each 1.25" (counting hem) short of the pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What does the bottom of the mattress look like with the sheet on? <span style="font-size: x-small;">Am I the only one who thought that?</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Do I really need 80" of elastic?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I didn't want there to be a mishap on my sheet's watch so I measured my elastic, but didn't cut it. I marked it at 72" and 80". After running the elastic through which let me say was a task, I put it on the mattress and tightened it until I felt it held well. I ended up taking off 14". So 60" is what I used. Also, I overlapped my ends 1" when sewing them together. Which brings me to another question...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
How much do I turn the fabric under for the elastic casing?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I turned my under 5/8" and sewed it at 1/4". Normally I would have only turned it under 1/2" and sewed it at 1/8", but I wanted more room for error.</div>

All the things I needed to make one were on hand (have been internet shopping lately) and it really didn't take that long to make.<br />
<br />
Did have a little trouble with the hair...........don't quite have the knack of it yet.............means I will have to make a few more, and I thought I had matched up the thread for the fringe but it was a little darker when sewn ! I didn't put the wings on either.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigaSaO_nvD3wqwYM91FnFXtvuKKMNNiiTeRrTRpjgDrDtYPQvYknRqsdI32tm4yx-AsZawN23rd2lSKSM6ghzAiGmyYY8Q5IElv328kbDkkLix58WyNdY5BEqdeodAbdhk1ItwT6GGayR4/s1600/Doing+Something+014.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigaSaO_nvD3wqwYM91FnFXtvuKKMNNiiTeRrTRpjgDrDtYPQvYknRqsdI32tm4yx-AsZawN23rd2lSKSM6ghzAiGmyYY8Q5IElv328kbDkkLix58WyNdY5BEqdeodAbdhk1ItwT6GGayR4/s400/Doing+Something+014.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Don't you just love the buttons? They are really brads! I couldn't find any beads in the colour I wanted so looked in my scrap-book supplies and what do you know! I think they are perfect.<br />
<br />
With my recent stay in hospital I decided I needed a bag for my slippers. A plastic bag just doesn't cut it and I made one from some fabric I recently found in Spotlight. It's not slippers but rain boots.......still it's shoes! It was quick and easy to make and I will be able to pop in a pair of slippers (or shoes when on holidays) the next time they are needed.<br />

Hi I just did an update on my blog, this time I decided to recycle old scraps of </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
jeans and create a textile cuff.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk8Euz61I8hwN2snnjHRo6xqG_pSKe5-ZFXEjUsZwwFsZGzTucbyfSYzRKkw2NoifeGSP35DCeHvhyphenhyphenJACos4i90zeAR8DkFzleSxQxSVLgFAA9_vfh3t4UpySmeZpGhZFUJi0imgeHG8Lx/s1600/1acopie.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgk8Euz61I8hwN2snnjHRo6xqG_pSKe5-ZFXEjUsZwwFsZGzTucbyfSYzRKkw2NoifeGSP35DCeHvhyphenhyphenJACos4i90zeAR8DkFzleSxQxSVLgFAA9_vfh3t4UpySmeZpGhZFUJi0imgeHG8Lx/s320/1acopie.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
I added scraps of fabrics and also some jewelry. I decided to take out of the closet my embellisher machine, and use it to blend the fabrics.<br />

for my pillowcase, I think it's a way to customize the decoration of a
room.<br />The technique that I will use to perform them, is called, the
technique of the sausage pillowcase, and when you'll see the pictures then you
will understand why it is called so.<br />These cases are sewn in a couple of
hours, what actually took me longer was choosing the fabrics....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXuP3J3KQ9ZEDab7Ju4bLzQh7Y-Owtc2aTA5qBQGmaSiSsMT2tSo2wIXfsXhXgNvHCrN3skqd5BYeAcSpD60uhjMLTIBtNHGVc0Kn6RVd3hyphenhyphenQefMrhCDDvmgk1Bg1Pr06i3cKDjCN_pfyF/s1600/01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXuP3J3KQ9ZEDab7Ju4bLzQh7Y-Owtc2aTA5qBQGmaSiSsMT2tSo2wIXfsXhXgNvHCrN3skqd5BYeAcSpD60uhjMLTIBtNHGVc0Kn6RVd3hyphenhyphenQefMrhCDDvmgk1Bg1Pr06i3cKDjCN_pfyF/s320/01.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What is special about this type of case, is that when you finish it, we will not
see any seams inside. To me this is magic, when I discovered this technique, I
said to myself that I had to try to make a couple of them and see the result, I
checked and I can confirm, when you finish the pillowcase, the seams are not
seen and especially, these covers are beautiful!<br /><br /><span class="hps">I invite you to</span> <span class="hps">visit my</span> <span class="hps">blog</span> <span class="hps">to read the</span> <span class="hps">tutorial</span><span>,</span> <span class="hps">I warn you that</span> <span class="hps">I have</span> <span class="hps">many pictures</span> <span class="hps">and I think</span> <span class="hps">it's pretty clear</span> <span class="hps">to understand.</span> <span class="hps">At least that</span><span>'s what I</span><span>'ve tried. </span></div>

Since I did not have a pattern or instructions, I decided to do an Internet search. <br />I found two sites with free tutorials that interested me, two different patterns </div>

but both are original. If you have interest in making these crochet slippers, I </div>

I hope you're all well and crafting away. What's everyone working on? Crocheting? Knitting? Sewing? Please share!!! I need some fresh inspiration. I was looking back and realized I never tried <a href="http://pinsanneedles.blogspot.com/search/label/chicken%20scratch">chicken scratch</a>. When I get a chance I'm wanting to make some throw quilts out of scrap fabric. It would be cool if a couple of the squares were chicken scratch. But on to today...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrLqKYLGz1b2USw2uPfHZe3Q2NgYUfC0qDMoWllWmqbYR7e0jUJ3yRPDGLz9SEDvIANrrUjQ1zkWQAnQKOcLglI0OuLLcvARtcW6I6gWant-E-T8M7RGzvPsnvcL96LGN4MsgX0OwYKYnb/s1600/IMG_20120815_195120.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrLqKYLGz1b2USw2uPfHZe3Q2NgYUfC0qDMoWllWmqbYR7e0jUJ3yRPDGLz9SEDvIANrrUjQ1zkWQAnQKOcLglI0OuLLcvARtcW6I6gWant-E-T8M7RGzvPsnvcL96LGN4MsgX0OwYKYnb/s320/IMG_20120815_195120.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I've been working on another round of being sick. What's up with that?!?!?! So I have very little to show for my time. Today, I whipped up a sleeping towel for my daughter. Please tell me why they must nap on a towel at school instead of a mat? I completely cheated on this craft because let's face it travel pillow cases are cheap ($2.24) AND I found one that's zebra print just like I wanted. So what did I actually do you asked? I sewed the bottom of the pillow case to the top of the towel. I know you're blown over right. Hehehe... Well, my only claim to fame is embellishing the front with a couple hearts, one being minky, and my daughter's name. Because I still don't feel 100% I wanted to just put "Kj" nice and big in the middle, but my little rat wanted her full name. Ugh...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmUR5tRcOXVB9EnRO1LoacH7t4MpJucOb8jwCmYI46j8hH-ZeBmnC57ojveuev5SyGzLqlsQxy4P9_k3JCbHCl_JatyisaOjF7Y85H_qusMCt1uKSEwSZhXXjsIveec6fUXHHByWbyLvDg/s1600/IMG_20120815_195107.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmUR5tRcOXVB9EnRO1LoacH7t4MpJucOb8jwCmYI46j8hH-ZeBmnC57ojveuev5SyGzLqlsQxy4P9_k3JCbHCl_JatyisaOjF7Y85H_qusMCt1uKSEwSZhXXjsIveec6fUXHHByWbyLvDg/s320/IMG_20120815_195107.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Oddly when ironing the pillow case it left zebra stripes on my ironing board. Good times. =)<br />
<br />
Alright, I need some chicken soup or sorbet for my sore throat so "TAG!" you're it. Post your recent or not so recent projects.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256379905082314089.post-48850285358842029142012-08-08T08:23:00.001-05:002012-08-09T19:50:31.540-05:00How to sew a crazy quilt clothespin bag.<div style="text-align: center;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnTZGHKmRi-6Cq_jw2smwb-dp2L8Di1Jogeljbbs_XhMGf-j7oaAbzAsCZkm63wArzF7J6wvnPh96VU5HWMjZGjDcDjcb002NsNqMIp0Rmla7DUpsYnoz8mM5iOLO58EZSXXTJPPiMqeJ/s1600/pencil+pouch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOnTZGHKmRi-6Cq_jw2smwb-dp2L8Di1Jogeljbbs_XhMGf-j7oaAbzAsCZkm63wArzF7J6wvnPh96VU5HWMjZGjDcDjcb002NsNqMIp0Rmla7DUpsYnoz8mM5iOLO58EZSXXTJPPiMqeJ/s320/pencil+pouch.jpg" width="222" /></a></div>
My goal to embellish the back of the required pencil pouch failed. You have to take it apart to much to be able to sew on the back. So what's a mom to do with a mostly disassembled pouch? How about finish the job and take some measurements. =) Besides, if all else fails I bought two of the pouches (on sale) so my daughter could take the other one to school.<br />
<br />
To make one you will need:<br />
<br />
1/3 yard fabric<br />
3 - 1/2" grommets<br />
12" zipper<br />
10" card stock<br />
6"x 9" vinyl<br />
<br />
Optional:<br />
ribbons, patches, rhynstones, rick-rack, ect... Basically whatever you would like to embellish it with.<br />
<br />
Because I used quilting fabric I chose to double my fabric to make sure the pouch would be durable. The Kindergarten teachers complained last year that the kids would drop the pencil boxes and the lids would break off; I didn't want them to find fault with my pouch saying it wasn't as strong as the required one. Also, doubling the fabric made it so when looking through the window you are still looking at the right side of the fabric. I'm going to show you what I did, but know you don't have to double the fabric. <br />

<br />
Cut fabric:<br />
<ul>
<li>Back 9 3/4" x 10 3/4" (x2)</li>
<li>2 Side Panels 1 7/8" x 5 3/8" (x4)</li>
<li>Top Panel 1 3/8" x 10 3/4" (x2)</li>
</ul>
Cut vinyl window : 5 3/8" x 8 3/8"<br />
<br />
Zipper: cut to 11" and either melt or use fray check on the ends to prevent fraying. Zigzag stitch the zipper together to prevent the zipper from pulling apart before you can sew it on; this will later be removed. To get a matching zipper I had to buy a 22" zipper and cut it down to 11". The original zipper didn't have the stops so with mine being longer I cut them off. <br />

Have some fun on the back! Remember the top will fold over perhaps 3/4" and the bottom a couple inches so 4" from the top is right at the center of the back.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLPSco7bPXr1Hu03sZQQs3RGZSdzO2Tm81XtSU4v81CFPWrxo6qn7E_OfMSp4bzIxzBA2zFC3gYb3mrAq0Vd0RaOhW2yD6l_NPHYMjvs-NXYvFhOWXzhRZnXJI64awvN45tNaa45hYGuGh/s1600/IMG_20120722_192558.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLPSco7bPXr1Hu03sZQQs3RGZSdzO2Tm81XtSU4v81CFPWrxo6qn7E_OfMSp4bzIxzBA2zFC3gYb3mrAq0Vd0RaOhW2yD6l_NPHYMjvs-NXYvFhOWXzhRZnXJI64awvN45tNaa45hYGuGh/s320/IMG_20120722_192558.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
Because I have tonsillitis I really didn't feel like being creative so a quick visit to Hancock Fabrics and Hobby Lobby gave my daughter plenty of patch options to chose from. They were all iron on, which I did, but given that it's going on a pencil pouch I also sewed around each patch<br />
<br />
If doubling, pair each piece up with wrong sides together and zig-zag or serge stitch all edges to both bind them together and prevent fraying. If only using one layer you will still need to zig-zag or serge the edges.<br />
<br />
Assembling... <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF3VSoN2wq0PQXrvLtJ8YC96RBz51JBb3Xvv5gQH5Ynr5j49YWgr5zxu_ku1WlEPSkS8ce4xAtdL6JmN9PDa8SyZYPzLG4iIHabhngHmnm6cw2kIpRbPjFB3thZHZsyr9aBNNx_azWfbwS/s1600/P7230017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiF3VSoN2wq0PQXrvLtJ8YC96RBz51JBb3Xvv5gQH5Ynr5j49YWgr5zxu_ku1WlEPSkS8ce4xAtdL6JmN9PDa8SyZYPzLG4iIHabhngHmnm6cw2kIpRbPjFB3thZHZsyr9aBNNx_azWfbwS/s400/P7230017.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Iron one long edge of each side panel under 1/4" then lay it on top of the vinyl ends, overlapping 1/4" and top stitch. If you're like me and using re-purposed vinyl you will face the same issue of the vinyl sticking to your machine. I cut a straight line on a coffee filter, marked 1/4" (needed to see my seam allowance) and used a glue stick to get it to stay on my vinyl. It worked amazingly well and after each seam I pulled the paper off and wiped the vinyl with a damp cloth to get the glue off.<br />
<br />

Now that you have the two sides on it's time to add the top the same way as the sides; iron under 1/4", overlay it 1/4" onto the vinyl and top stitch.<br />

Ready to sew up the sides? Line up the Back panel with the back edge of the zipper just like in the photo; yes this means part of the back will wrap over the top of the pouch. Once you have it lined up sew 1/4" seams down each side. Make sure your zipper is open BEFORE you sew the sides together or you will have a lot of fun trying to get it open.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And there you go, you have a pencil pouch the same size as the required one. The top corner looks wonky in the photo, but that's only because the zipper is making the fabric stand up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have yet to put the grommets on the pouch, but will just so the teacher won't say it's not the same as the required pouch. On the store bought pouch the center of the grommets are 3/4" from each edge and 5". I've never done it, but my husband said he's put them in before with a harmer and the little thing they come with. I guess I'll see how easy they are. =)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Unless you have everything on hand or just want a cool pouch it's cheaper to buy the real deal. The zipper cost me more than the whole pouch I purchased. But... my daughter will have the coolest pouch in Kindergarten.</div>

I have been working on my blocks for my Annual Halloween Block swap over the last few weeks. Which has really put me in the mood to do my Holiday stitching. </div><div style="text-align: center;">If your interested in quilting and would like to join in on the fun go <a href="http://pinsanneedles.blogspot.com/2012/04/annual-holiday-block-swaps.html">HERE</a> to check out the details. There are still 3 or 4 openings. <b>Yes</b> international players are always welcome in my swaps. </div><div style="text-align: center;">I received the cutest quilt block from my daughter last year for Christmas. It was set aside waiting for me to decide what to do with it. After months and months of staring at it... I have decided. I am going to make a Christmas tote. This little tote will be so much fun to use while shopping. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />

I have ordered some Fabric crayons to color in the design. Sort of an altered art project. I have never attempted this sewing/altered art form before. I hope I don't mess it up. I have seen some awesome projects using this crayon technique. I hope that the crayons add just a bit of pop to my little block. Have any of our readers used the fabric crayons before. I was also debating on using fabric inks. Let me know what you think please! Before I go and mess up my daughters lovely work.<br />

Four years ago I swapped on there, but when we started to prepare for another international move (ended up back in the US instead of Guam), I stopped using swap-bot. Besides Aunt Pitty Pat started doing more challenging swaps with much better projects then I've done on swap-bot. =) Recently I pulled the site back up and completed about five swaps. <br />
<br />
Of course I'm all about sewing so when the Mini Quilt swap came up I jumped on it. The challenge was to sew a miniature quilt that was 8"x8" to 12"x12". It had to be done in your partners favorite colors and the theme they chose. It must be quilted and of course made like a real quilt with all three layers. Here's what I sent...<br />
<br />

My lady likes to hand quilt. I was going to put a colorful quilt coming out of an antique sewing machine, but my goodness do you have any idea how tiny it would be to sew it in the small white area? Once cutting out a template I gave up the idea. Now... I did have to laugh when considering the size of the needle and the quilt it's sewing.<br />
<br />
EDIT: Oops! I was just counting the inches on the cutting board in the photo and noticed the quilt is actually 13" x 13" Oh well...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8256379905082314089.post-5376979108763121112012-06-06T09:20:00.000-05:002012-06-06T09:21:14.666-05:00Tooth Fairy PillowThe tooth fairy will be visiting our house any day now so I had to quickly whip up a pillow to put the tooth in. She actually had a pillow that I made when she was 2-3, but when a friend had a need and I didn't have the time to make another one, I gave it away.<br />

Here's the new one. It's a lot different than the small square pillow with a big pocket and tooth on the front. I have to be honest, I'm not a big fan now that it's done. We tied a ribbon around her neck and it makes her look like she's about to fly a plane. Oh well, it's different and it matches her room.</div>
